## Important Notes

  - Hot Scores are **relative** — a score of 80 among micro-influencers may represent different metrics than 80 among mega-influencers
  - Scores are updated **daily**, so they reflect recent performance rather than historical averages
  - A lower Hot Score doesn't mean a creator is "bad" — it may indicate a niche focus with highly engaged followers
  - Always combine Hot Scores with other factors like brand fit and audience demographics

## Scope Groups

New API keys default to: `profiles:read, profiles:affinities, profiles:posts, profiles:network, campaigns:read, lists:read, analytics:read, manage:read, knowledge:read`. Write, trigger, and contact scopes must be explicitly requested.

Two convenient groupings:

- `read_all` — All read scopes (excludes write, trigger, and contact)
- `full_access` — All 16 individual scopes

## Handling Rate Limits

When you exceed rate limits, the API returns a `429` status code:

The `Retry-After` header tells you the seconds to wait.

## Best Practices

You can scope a key's exposed tools with `CELAVII_TOOLS=meta,profiles,jobs` (stdio installs) or by issuing a key with limited `scopes` in Settings → API (all installs).

## Authentication

### stdio · Bearer token

Claude Code, Cursor, Windsurf, and any other stdio MCP client read your `cvii_live_*` key from the `CELAVII_API_KEY` environment variable. The key stays on your machine; nothing transits a browser.

### streamable-http · OAuth 2.1 (PKCE)

Claude Desktop and claude.ai Co-work register dynamically (RFC 7591), open a browser to our consent page (`/oauth/authorize`), and exchange the authorization code for a 1h access token + 60d refresh token. The token wraps a workspace key you pick on the consent page; both flow through the same downstream auth pipeline as raw keys.

  Claude Code keeps the MCP host process alive across windows. After editing `mcp_servers.json`, fully quit the app (⌘Q on macOS, File → Quit elsewhere) before reopening. Reload-window is not enough.

## Updating

The `@latest` tag in `npx -y celavii-mcp@latest` pulls the newest published version on every cold start. To check what's installed right now:

## Steps

### 1. Open the "Add custom connector" dialog

- **Mac/Windows app:** Customize → Connectors → **+**
- **claude.ai web Co-work:** Settings → Connectors → **+**

### 2. Fill the dialog

Celavii uses RFC 7591 dynamic client registration — Desktop registers itself the first time it talks to our auth server. Manual *Client ID / Secret* are only for servers that pre-issue static credentials, which we don't.

### 3. Authorize on the consent page

Desktop opens a browser tab to `celavii.com/oauth/authorize`. What you see depends on whether you're already signed in:

- **Signed in** — A workspace picker shows every workspace you belong to with effective-plan badges. Pick a key and click **Connect Claude**. The browser bounces back to Desktop.
- **Not signed in** — A paste fallback appears. Paste a `cvii_live_*` key from [Settings → API](/dashboard). Same callback round-trip.

### 4. Verify

Desktop populates the tool list within a few seconds (83 tools across 12 groups). Test by asking Claude: *"Call get_account_info"* — you'll get back your org slug, plan, and credit usage.

## How the auth works

The OAuth bearer wraps the API key you picked on the consent page. Both flow through the same downstream auth pipeline as raw `cvii_live_*` keys — same rate limits, same scopes, same audit trail.

  External API access requires a **Starter plan or higher** AND a payment method on file. The picker greys out free-effective-plan workspaces with *"🔒 Upgrade to Starter"*. If your org is on a `shared_pool` plan that inherits Pro from a parent workspace, you're already covered — the picker shows it as *Pro · inherited*.

## Revoke access

Anytime, in [Settings → API](/dashboard):

- Look for the purple **Used by Claude** badge on a key — that's the one Desktop is holding an OAuth bearer for.
- Click **Revoke** on that key. Desktop's next tool call returns 401 and prompts the user to reconnect (which re-runs the OAuth dance, picking a fresh key).

## Common pitfalls

  That subdomain is a different (Microsoft 365) connector. The MCP server for the Celavii API lives at `https://www.celavii.com/api/mcp/mcp`.

  Only `cvii_live_*` keys work. Sandbox `cvii_test_*` keys are blocked at the auth gate.

  Starter = 30 req/min, Pro = 60 req/min, Enterprise = 120 req/min. The picker shows the limit your selected key will get.

  Cursor and Windsurf don't accept the celavii-install skill the same way Claude Code does — their skill loaders look in their own directories. The install skill (`skills/celavii-install/` in the [toolkit repo](https://github.com/efraijo/celavii-toolkit)) sets up Cursor and Windsurf if you point a Claude Code session at it first; it rewrites Cursor's and Windsurf's config files for you.

## Install + connection issues

### Claude Code shows zero tools after install

**Cause:** The MCP host process is reused across windows; closing the window doesn't reload `mcp_servers.json`.

**Fix:** Fully quit Claude Code (⌘Q on macOS, File → Quit elsewhere) and reopen.

### /oauth/authorize?error=wrong_format

**Cause:** Pasted a `cvii_test_*` sandbox key. Only `cvii_live_*` keys are accepted.

**Fix:** Mint a live key in [Settings → API](/dashboard) (must be on a Starter plan or higher).

### /oauth/authorize?error=invalid_key

**Cause:** The pasted key is unknown, malformed, or no longer active. Common causes: trailing whitespace from copy-paste, or the key was revoked.

**Fix:** Re-copy the key from Settings → API; if that fails, mint a fresh one.

### /oauth/authorize?error=brute_force

**Cause:** More than 15 failed auth attempts from your IP in the last 5 minutes.

**Fix:** Wait 5 minutes and try again. If you're using the picker, sign in to celavii.com first to skip paste entirely.

### /oauth/authorize?error=expired

**Cause:** The picked key has an `expires_at` date in the past.

**Fix:** Pick a different key, or revoke the expired one and create a new key in Settings → API.

### /oauth/authorize?error=not_member

**Cause:** You signed in to celavii.com as a different user from the one who owns the key being authorized.

**Fix:** Sign in as the right user, or paste a key from a workspace you do belong to.

## Plan + workspace issues

### Workspace shows 🔒 Upgrade to Starter on the picker

**Cause:** That workspace's effective plan is Free; external API access requires Starter or higher.

**Fix:** Pick a different workspace, or upgrade the org's plan in [Settings → Billing](/dashboard). If the workspace inherits its plan from a parent, the picker shows it as *Pro · inherited* automatically.

### Workspace shows 🔒 No payment method

**Cause:** Plan is Starter+ but no card on file.

**Fix:** Add a payment method in Settings → Billing, then refresh the consent page.

## Runtime errors

### Tool calls return 401 even though /me works

**Cause:** The key is missing the scope for that tool. `/me` is unscoped; other tools need `profiles:read`, `campaigns:write`, etc.

**Fix:** Revoke the key and mint a new one with default scopes — by default new keys get all 16 scopes.

### find_similar_profiles returns NOT_FOUND

**Cause:** The seed profile has no embedding yet. The embedding pipeline runs every minute; recently-added profiles may not yet be indexed.

**Fix:** Pick a higher-traffic seed (the top results from `search_profiles` for big brands always have embeddings — try `nike`, `instagram`, `leomessi`). Or wait a few minutes and retry.

### Hit 429 repeatedly during normal use

**Cause:** Per-key rate-limit fired. Starter = 30 req/min, Pro = 60, Enterprise = 120.

**Fix:** Stagger calls, or upgrade the workspace's plan. The `Retry-After` header tells you the seconds to wait.

### enhance charged credits despite dry_run

**Cause:** The route honours `dry_run: true`, NOT `confirmed: false`. The MCP `enhance_profiles` tool translates between them, but direct REST callers must use `dry_run`.

**Fix:** `meta.credits_used` in the response envelope is the source of truth — if it's 0, you weren't charged. Set `dry_run: true` in the request body.

### curl shows Deprecation: true on the SSE endpoint

**Cause:** `/api/mcp/sse` is sunsetting on 2026-08-06.

**Fix:** Switch your client URL from `/api/mcp/sse` to `/api/mcp/mcp`. JSON-RPC body and Authorization header are identical; only the transport differs.
